Top 9 Internet Marketing Podcasts
I won’t be doing any linking in this post. If you want to check out these podcasts, just search the names in iTunes.
I listen to a TON of IM and SEO podcasts. I have heard a lot of junk, and I also have pet peeves about several. For instance, I have stopped listening to certain high-profile podcasters due to crud that I’ve noticed, like loud disgusting sounds of spit sloshing around under the speaker’s tongue (am I the only person on Earth that hears that stuff?), the over-use of the words “You know” every 10 seconds, and fake canned reading of the dialogue. I don’t mind if a person reads their own words, like a speech, but if it’s two people faking a conversation, I unsubscribe.
My other HUGE pet-peeve are podcasts that are over 25 minutes long. Do these people actually think we spend more than 50 minutes on a commute to work in which we want to spend the entire time listening to ONLY them?
Michael Campbell once told me that the average commute is something like 22 minutes and the average attention span is something like 19 minutes.
TAKE NOTE OF THAT YOU NARCISSISTIC PODCASTERS THAT LOVE THE SOUND OF YOUR VOICES!
Anyway, on with my post. I like these IM podcasts:
1) SEO 101: even if they changed the original line-up, I still like it.
2) Internet Business Mastery: I like these guys a lot, a lot, a lot. My only suggestions would be for them to share more tips, learn that “escape” is not pronounced “ex-cape”, and that “idea” is not pronounced “eye-DAY-uh”. That said, they’re rich, smart and successful, and I’m not.
3) Marketing Online Live: top notch podcast; subscribe.
4) E-Commerce Success Show by ScottFox.com: Scott does great interviews with successful netrepreneurs. My only beef is that it’s about 2X as long as it needs to be. Oh, and the super long pre-amble at the start of each show.
5) Marketing Over Coffee: interesting, informative, fun. These guys do such a good job at being consistent too; I don’t know if they’ve ever missed a week. My only concern is that it doesn’t really have an “IM” feel, and they don’t talk much about techniques. Oh, and the swallowing-spit-smacks every 20 seconds is a little annoying, but I guess that’s because they’re drinking coffee. Either way, you WILL pick up valuable tips.
6) Duct Tape Marketing: good interviews, good show length lately. But more of a general marketing feel rather than IM.
7) 10 Golden Rules of Internet Marketing: awesome podcast, awesome guy.
Internet Marketing Unleashed with Scott Paton: also a good interviewer; good show.
9) Friday Traffic Report: You MUST listen to Jack Humphrey week after week; he never disappoints.
I listen to about 20 other shows, but many are just too long. Lately, if I don’t listen to them in the car (I drive a lot for work), then I’ll listen to them at my desk and I’ll play them at double-speed.
I wish people would cut with the filler and give us more killer.

Thanks for the award! I think podcast business models rank as Marketing Failures for the most part…

You’re welcome; thanks for being the first podcaster to pick up my post and then comment. I really do enjoy your show despite my rude comment.
