The Death of Twitter
The Death of Twitter?
Ha, ha. Just joking. I thought it would be funny to be one of the people to make the “death of” statement, just because Internet marketers always come up with reports on why an accepted norm is going to die.
SO, the reason I bring it up is because I’ve noticed a couple interesting things about one of Twitter’s competitors, Identi.ca.
First off, let me say that I often use Ping.fm to post my tweets to Twitter because it will also post the same info onto identi.ca, Plurk, Jaiku (is it still around?), Brightkite, etc.
The interesting this is that when I do that, I get Google Alerts pointing at identi.ca but not at the other places. Also, when I Google my name, guess what I see in the top 10? You guessed it: my identi.ca profile.
BTW, just as an aside, I never get a Google Alert for anything posted on Blogspot or EzineArticles.
Does this mean Google loves identi.ca more than Twitter? Are they just trying to throw us all off their trail in the rumoured Google purchase of Twitter? ie. they don’t want to play favorites?
Please note that my Twitter page does show up on page 3 when I search my name, so that’s suspiciously unsuspicious. Noticably unnoticable. Interestingly uninteresting.
What does this have to do with succeeding or failing? Nothing much. Just thought I’d bring it up.
Do with it what you will.
Action Item For Myself: Start posting different content on Identi.ca than what I’m posting on Twitter…because the duplicate filter will drop the axe at some point. And if Google likes it so much, maybe I can do something more with it?
