Keywords, BOTW, and DMOZ
I still haven’t thought of any keyword phrases that I want to target with this blog.
Actually, on that note, I want to rant about SEO and one keyword.
In my main niche, in which people rarely seem to buy anything, I have been working to get a top 10 ranking for a competitive key phrase. I think I’ve mentioned it in other posts.
I had the #11 spot in early December 2008, and then thought I’d do something drastic and buy a one-year listing on Best of the Web, which a few certain SEOs rave about all the time, and now I can’t seem to break onto page 3. Sometimes I get there, but it doesn’t last. Sorry, BOTW. I’m sure you’re actually helping me, and the problem has more to do with some other dumb thing I did, like continuously link to the same page with the same phrase all the time.
But still, you’d think I’d be doing better after the BOTW link, which shows the anchor text I asked for. What…do I now have to go buy a Yahoo link too? And how the heck can I get into DMOZ? I’ve tried that for years. I even read several sites with tips on how to get into DMOZ, which I try to follow. I have also applied to become an editor, but they said I witheld too much info regarding other online projects/sites I’m involved with. How can I be 100% accurate in that regard? There’s too many!
I will likely resort to getting quality links by emailing webmasters that link to my competitors. That is often a good thing.
BTW, I have 3 minutes before midnight; I gotta stick to my one post per day goal.
